‘Warm’ Species Invading Antarctic

Because of the development of the travel industry, people have recently been seeking new places which they have desired. One would be Antarctica continent, which is regarded as a mysterious continent with gorgeous views. However, many scientists have warned that traveling to Antarctica continent would bring about a lot of environmental problems, because plant seeds and non-native species moved by visitors can wreck Antarctica’s peculiar ecosystems. The survey of A.T.C.M. (Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meeting in Edinburg reveals that more than 26,000 tourists visit Antarctica per year and numbers grow by the thousands each year. That is, innumerable species are also going to Antarctica continent, stuck onto visitors and their transportation and they will gradually be able to ruin the Antarctica’s environment. On this, the A.T.C.M. stated that it costs thousands and sometimes millions of dollars to try and get rid of something … prevention is better than a cure. Despite action to prevent non-native species, in the course of time, they have been dramatically increased and have had negative influenced.

Therefore, I contend that international society should be more considerate about protecting Antarctica’s environment from non-native species in the following ways.

Firstly, we should strongly legislate against visiting Antarctica, until we have solved the environmental matters. Antarctica continent should be regarded as a special area; so, nobody should be there, except those with peculiar demands. Of course, we do not have to impinge on what people want, which is to go to Antarctica, and everyone has some opinion of that matter; however, we would need to prohibit entering there to a certain extend for keeping the global environment. Furthermore, it is important that the U.N take an active role in this situation, since many countries are involved in occupying the continent.. In international society, the U.N should pursue collaborative work with international society for legislating against visiting the mysterious continent.

Secondly, advertising is also one of the most effective ways to diminish the increasing of the non-native species. Advertising associated with the situation of Antarctica’s environment should be spread throughout the world through the media of advertisement, such as television, radio, internet, and so on. This is because it would enable all people living in the world to recognize the environmental problem in Antarctica. It might have the same effect as setting a law.

For overcoming significant tasks, finally, strange as it may sound, the fact is that technology should be more developed by the effort of international society. A proverb says, “An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.” Having developed the technology that brought on the environmental ruin these days, we are able to get over it with further technology. Thus, our efforts for developing our technology should be ceaseless, solving our heavy matters in the world.

In conclusion, it is a fact that we face a lot of difficult situations in the global environment; particularly, one of the most considerable areas would be the Antarctica continent. Many non-native species have moved along with people and their transportation and have inhabited it very quickly. Recently, these species have threatened our society. We must try to overcome these difficulties through the collaborative work among the countries. No matter how long it takes, we must complete our problems, handing over all our property to our descendants. So, I think it is high time that we should do this for our future.
